Drew's Review

Welcome back to BurgerTours! And welcome to another edition of where will Mark and Andrew eat at next?! Well, we’ve got an answer for you.

This BurgerTour brings us back to our own stomping grounds of Scarbaria where we decided to order from Kathy’s Grill. The family-run dine-in restaurant has been serving the Kennedy Rd. and Lawrence Ave. community since 2016. And although Kathy’s Grill is known for its Greek food, the restaurant also serves hot dogs, fries and BURGERS!

We arrived shortly after noon on a Thursday and there were already a few ahead of us. The prices are affordable with a burger starting at $3.40. Kathy’s Grill’s burger options are hamburger, homeburger, double hamburger, double homeburger, and a choice to add cheddar cheese and/or bacon. I decided to go with the homemade hamburger for $4.65.

We took our orders home and gave them an unwrapping when we were ready to eat. The burger looked delicious. It was full of tastiness and tender love. The first bite was delectable. The homemade hamburger wasn’t too big, wasn’t too small. For the price, this was a really good burger. The meat was tender and juicy and the buns were a little soft and dry. But I feel like I’ve had this kind of burger before. It was a kind of burger you could simply make on a backyard BBQ grill. So, it wasn’t anything to spectacular. It was okay.

Overall, Kathy’s Grill has a really good tasting grilled burger and it was definitely full of flavour. And because it is a Greek restaurant, and their number one menu item is the chicken souvlaki dinner, I can’t fault them for having a mediocre tasting burger. And if it is the only option along Kennedy Road that offers a decent burger for an affordable price, then Kathy’s Grill is probably the best burger joint in Scarborough.

Mark's Review

We take you back to Scarborough for this burger tour where we visit a local favourite, Kathy’s Grill. This family owned restaurant is popular for its affordable, yet delicious, greek food, sandwiches, salads, and burgers. Kathy’s was actual a favourite of mine when I worked at the coffee shop right across the parking lot, so their food was not new to me. I remember walking in for my lunch breaks and being greeted by the staff making me feel as one of their own, and this time was no exception. I still felt the warm welcome when I walked in this time around.

Usually, I would come in for their Souvlaki dinners, so the burgers were never really my go to. I was excited to try them for the first time. I opted for the the Chicken Burger with tomato, lettuce, and ketchup with a side of fries.

Taking the first bite, I was a little let down by the taste. It was your typical burger that you would get a family bbq. Sad to say that I wasn’t really impressed by at all. It was nicely cooked, but there was nothing that stood out about it. Compared to others, this was very basic and underwhelming. The fries, however, were the highlight about the meal. They were golden, crispy, and not as greasy as I had expected.

Since we were not able to dine in, the overall take out experience was decent. Kathy’s will always have a special place in my heart for this good food, particularly the Souvlaki dinner, but the burgers are a no for me.
