How are you?

Cool. Cool. Cool. You good?

Can’t complain. Y’all good then?

To ring out the year on a high note, we decided to stay local for our last BurgerTour of 2021, and what better way than to visit a family-run restaurant in Scarborough that features a little taste of everything Toronto has to offer: The 6 Burger Bar.

Located on Chelwood Road, just off of Birchmount Ave. and sitting amongst a small plaza of shops, the 6 Burger Bar has been serving up burgers, poutine and other traditional Greek dinners since 2016. The interior is small with limited dine in options, but the food selections are vast. Each meal is chef inspired from Angus Chuck burgers to specialty poutines and full dinner entrees.

Customer traffic was scarce when we arrived in the mid-afternoon. Only one gentleman seemed to be dining in at the time of our arrival in what looked to be the only table open for dine-in. Browsing their menu, I was left with a couple of delicious options. I decided to order the 5 oz. cheeseburger which came with my selection of toppings: lettuce, tomatoes, onions, ketchup and relish.

The burger was small and compact. The buns were soft but it was like your own typical BBQ cooked burger. The succulent taste of the beef was recognizable. The juiciness and the tenderness of the patty was cooked to perfection and the quality of the meat was good. But the burger wasn’t anything special. It was a great tasting 5oz. angus burger that could replicated and grilled up on your own BBQ. It wasn’t anything spectacular.

Overall, the 6 Burger Bar is great to have in your neighbourhood, and if you live nearby, it’s a great option to dine-in, takeout or order for delivery. The burgers are good, but they’re not extraordinary. I’m satisfied with my selection, but provided there’s more to their menu than just the burgers, I’m willing to dine there again in the future to reverse my judgement of their culinary cuisine.

Home Burger/Photo by Mark Avila
We’re back with another BurgerTour in Scarborough. This time we take you to Birchmount & Eglinton where we visit The 6 Burger Bar. A local favourite that set up shop a few years back, I do remember trying this joint when they first opened and wasn’t left disappointed. I’m excited to revisit and experience a different 6 Burger Bar, and see how much they’ve evolved over the years.

I opted for the Home Burger. A beef patty with tomato, lettuce, pickled, and ketchup. It was definitely your typical local restaurant style burger, but with a nice char to it. Taking the first bite, I was surprised by how much flavour it had for such a basic burger. The char added a smokiness to the burger, which was something that others like it the past didn’t have. It made it stand out, that’s for sure.

Overall, it was a satisfying experience. The food was what I was expecting, nothing extraordinary and not overly terrible. Definitely a place worth trying.

Monsieur Cheeseburger/Photo by Mark Avila
This is Mark! I’m happy to take you back to Montreal for another special burger tour. I take you to a Montreal favourite that has been serving burgers for over 70 years, Mister Steer. Established in 1958, this joint first opened its doors in Quartier Latin and has since expanded to a bigger space in Rue Saint-Catherine. They made their name known for serving the finest cut of Kosher Beef, offering the best ingredients along with the famous Mister Steer seasoning.

The Burger menu was huge, a page and a half worth, of their best burger offerings and then some. Ranging from cheeseburgers, double bacon burgers, and burgers packed with the full works, the options are limitless. I went ahead and chose the Monsieur Cheeseburger- a beef patty with tomato, lettuce, red onions, and topped with a thick layer of melted cheese.

First impressions… it was very petite, but the beef patty did not disappoint. It was huge! I couldn’t wait to dig in. The first bite can be described in one word, juicy. Cutting into the meat was clean and smooth, as if I was cutting into butter. The melted cheese was creamy and gave a touch of sweetness to balance out the savoury taste of the burger.

I can see why Mister Steer has been a Montreal favourite for over 70 years. From the food to the people, everything was genuine was simply delicious. I’m wondering to myself why I didn’t discover this place sooner. Shoutout to my friend who was with me on this trip and recommended this place to try. I was not disappointed. If you ever find yourself in downtown Montreal and looking for a classic diner style burger, then Mister Steer is the place to go!
