Drew's Review

Single Bacon Cheeseburger/Photo by Andrew Hockridge
Hands down, this was the best burger I've had...before we started trying other burgers. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger because I wanted to start out going fully loaded. And by that I mean, I don't usually add bacon, but because it was an option, I just had to. I also added onions, relish, mustard, lettuce, tomatoes, ketchup and mayo for no additional cost.

Once my order was called up, I picked up the tray and brought it back to my seat. I unwrapped the foil from the burger and it was quite massive. I kind of regretted putting all those toppings on it. At first glance, I didn't know where to begin, but it was still small enough to wrap my hands around and go in for one big bite. The first taste I got was the meat: soft, slightly under-cooked, with a mouthful of mustard and 1/4 of a tomato.

As I got more to the middle, all the flavours of the toppings I added started combining into one great big delicious burger. The ketchup and mayo were all over my hands, my breath reeked of onions, and small little bacon crumbs sat left over in the burger wrapper as I wiped my face clean with the smallest of napkins.

The fries I ordered on the side as part of my combo deal were alright. They're the kind you get from a truck stop (soft, brown potato strips). They tasted under-cooked and didn't really have a particular flavour, so I had to add some vinegar and ketchup on the side.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this burger joint to anyone. However, you really don't need to spend an extra dollar on bacon because it generally just helps support the taste of the meat. Also, try to stay clear of extra extra additional toppings as the overall taste kind of just loses its flavour altogether and you wind up with one big mess to clean up.

Mark's Review

The Regular Hamburger/Photo by Mark Avila
If I had known that two months after taking this picture that it would be used for BurgerTours, I would have probably taken a better one...

Five Guys was one of those places where the hype around their simple, yet awesome burgers, caught my attention. I guess it was a spontaneous decision to visit this joint for the first time, and I must say it didn’t disappoint.

Seeing that it was my first time, I decided to keep it simple. Really simple. I went for the regular hamburger with tomatoes, lettuce, and ketchup free of charge. And of course, I couldn’t pass out on a side of fries, which were golden brown, not too salty, and not too burnt. I wasn’t really expecting much from the burger's presentation since I opted out from adding any additional toppings, but the extra load could have helped bring out the taste of the burger. The patty was juicy and not as greasy compared to other burger joints.

Overall, the experience was quite nice and casual. It was your typical burger joint, but what stood out were the staff. They never failed to acknowledge you when walking in or out the door. Would I ever come back here...yes.
