Drew's Review

I dare you to read this.

When it came down to choose a burger joint for the month of June, I was given the option to make it a surprise…so I drove about 45 minutes out of the city to nearby Oshawa to dine in at BRGRS.

BRGRS, on Simcoe Street just off of Highway 401, is a relatively new burger place opening in the summer of 2020. Its moto is simple, “We only use the best ingredients. Quality meats, fresh toppings and our patent recipe all come together to deliver you the best-tasting burger.” But the reason I chose this place wasn’t just because they had delcioous burgers on the menu, but because of the fancy exterior, especially in a not-so-hot-spot part of Oshawa.

Once we arrived in the early afternoon, there were maybe one or two diners dining inside. The place also features a front patio as well as enough parking for guests. During the pandemic however, when it opened, there was an operating window along the side of the restaurant for cars to drive up to to pick up their orders. Inside, there was a TV screen playing news, I think? Anyways the menu has a variety of different options in addition to a number of burgers.

The kind gentleman, who I assumed was the head chef came to take our orders on the iPad sitting on the table we failed to recognize. Technology! Once we placed our orders, we grabbed a table near the front windows and sat while the TV in the background murmured ever so quietly.

The Next Generation/Photo by Andrew Hockridge
The one that caught my eye was called the Next Generation burger, which was a 6 oz. beef patty that came with sautéed spinach, mushrooms and feta cheese. It looked and felt appetizing and was left satisfied.

Thanks, that’s my review.

Stay tuned for more burger reviews in the future!

Jk

The burger looked like a truck stop burger, and if you were to tell me if it had any additional toppings on it, I wouldn’t be able to guess what they were. The buns were soft and warm, and I think the best thing about this burger was the meat. BRGRS does a really good job in preparing all their meat daily before the rush shows up. And the burger was cooked well to perfection. The burger overall lacked any real distinct flavour to it, but I was satisfied nevertheless.

Overall, BRGRS does great quality burgers and from a very welcoming gentleman behind the counter, our hunger was fully satisfied. It wasn’t the best burger I’ve had, but it wasn’t the worst either. The Next Generation burger may just be a hit and miss type of creation, but I will withhold my decision until I opt to try another burger. We will definitely need to be paying another visit to this location next time we find ourselves in the area.

Mark's Review

Millennial Burger/Photo by Mark Avila
Andrew chose to surprise me with this months burger tour, and we took a quick drive east to Oshawa to find ourselves at BRGRS. This joint prides itself with their use of local produce and fresh ingredients in their burgers. They even grind their meat in house daily!

They have a small burger selection and it came down to two burgers. In the end I opted for the Millennial Brgr. This is 6oz patty with garlic aioli, sautéed onions, avocado, and topped with brie.

First impressions… it was thick and creamy. They weren’t shy about the cheese. It was oozing off the sides like a waterfall, making the burger twice as appetizing. The avocado gave it a nice sweet touch, but was unfortunately overpowered by the cheese and the savoury onions. Overall it was a decent burger, but I would prefer a little less cheese.

Other than that, there really isn’t much left to say. It was an okay burger joint and would definitely return if i ever found myself in Oshawa.
